We would like to inform that the WWEC2018, originally scheduled to be held in Karachi from 5-7 April, has to be postponed to 28-30 November 2018.
Without doubt, Pakistan is currently an interesting wind market. However, most recently some developments have happened which make it in our view difficult to achieve fully some of the main objectives of the WWECs, in particular by establishing a dialogue between relevant decision-makers in the public and in the private sector. The current government’s tenure is about to come to an end and there are possibilities that the next national elections will happen earlier than originally scheduled (in June or even May instead of July). This makes the political situation unstable and rapidly changing. E.g. the concerned minister has changed very recently.
All experts agree that the general political situation will again be clear in late autumn and we can make sure that the impact of the WWEC2018 will be as strong and sustainable as we want it to be, and also in line with your expectations. We will keep you updated about the progress of the WWEC2018 preparations. The programming process will continue following the original plan and we expect to publish the programme in early summer.
Of course we sincerely do apologise if this change causes any inconveniences on your side. We have continuously monitored the situation and adjusted our decision as fast as possible.
We are very confident that the WWEC2018 which will be held in November this year will help the Pakistani wind market to grow even more rapidly.
With kind regards
The WWEC2018 Chairpersons:
Hon. Peter Rae AO, WWEA President
Air Marshal (rtd) Shahid Hamid
Executive Chairpersons:
Stefan Gsänger, WWEA Secretary General
