WWEA SB58 Side Event: Mobilizing for the Global Energy Transformation

June 7, 2023 Press Releases

Official WWEA SB58 Side Event:

Mobilizing for the Global Energy Transformation

12 June 2023, 14.45 – 16.00 CEST

Room Bonn, UNFCCC SB58, World Conference Centre Bonn (WCCB)

Videostream on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/live/fjs7Mdi9V8E?feature=share

Summary

To fulfil the obligations under the Paris Agreement and to meet the Sustainable Development Goals by end of 2030, there is an urgent need for a global energy transformation towards 100% renewable energies. It is critical for rapid scale up renewable energy technologies such as solar, wind, biomass, hydro and geothermal. This requires fundamental social, technical, economic and political changes.

Renewable energy offers numerous benefits including mitigation of GHG emissions, replacing fossil fuels, creating new, local economic opportunities including millions of jobs and promoting local economic development.

In that regard, the leading global associations such as World Bioenergy Association (WBA), World Wind Energy Association (WWEA) and International Solar Energy Society (ISES) are organizing an event at the upcoming UNFCCC SB58 event to highlight the latest challenges and opportunities in mobilization of our societies for the upscaling of renewable energy technologies at the pace and scale required. The latest data on renewable energy deployment will be presented along with case studies showcasing the multiple socio-economic benefits of mobilization of renewable energy technologies in various regions. How can the necessary changes be fulfilled from the perspective of renewables suppliers and how to mobilise society in general? What role will technology play, how important are new alliances between renewables and the climate movement?

Only officially registered delegates to the UNFCCC can participate actively either physically in Bonn or virtually via SB58 platform, but a public stream stays available on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/live/fjs7Mdi9V8E?feature=share
